Stay Away From This Common Breakfast to Avoid Stomach Cancer

source | mercola.com

A review of available research indicates that the more processed meat you eat, the more likely you are to develop stomach cancer.

Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, salami, ham, and smoked or cured meat. The review looked at 40 years' worth of studies on the relationship between these meats and stomach cancer. Some of the studies examined hundreds or thousands or people.

Processed meat consumption among study participants ranged from less than 1 gram of processed meat per day to more than 56 grams. Higher processed meat intake was associated with greater stomach cancer risk, especially for bacon.

However, factors other than processed meats may also be involved.

Dr. Mercola's Comments:

The case for avoiding processed meats continues to grow. If you love, fried breakfast foods like bacon, the worst offender of them all you might want to rethink your strategy.

According to the studies, adding 1 ounce of processed meat to your daily diet elevates your stomach cancer risks by as much as 38 percent.

Among the likely contributors: Nitrates, along with excess salt and smoking that extend the shelf-life of such products. The central issue here is not the meat itself, but the kind of meat you're using and the way it has been prepared. This is one of the major reasons I strive to restrict my meat choices whenever possible to grass-fed and organic meats .

I also consume the majority of my meat raw, so the heterocyclic amines that form when you cook meat at high temperatures are completely eliminated.

Remember, cancer -- not heart disease -- has become America's top killer, and stomach cancer is the fourth most common kind. So try the safer, healthier options that are now available, thanks in part, to the growing number of ranchers raising bison in more natural conditions.

If you're finding it hard to track down a healthy source for bison meat in your area, you may want to consider the variety of Blackwing meats we carry in our store.
