Fifty Percent of World's Languages Have Been Lost in Last Six Years

If you're as concerned as I am about the environment and how it impacts your health, chances are good you might've missed a huge cultural shift.

This absolutely fascinating video lecture by a very articulate Harvard anthropologist tells you how we are losing our heritage.

By Proferssor Davis' estimate, about half of the world's 6,000 languages are disappearing, as they are no longer being taught to children, meaning the origins of our world, ethnicity and spiritual life -- what he calls the enthnosphere -- are vanishing.

With language serving as "a watershed of thought" -- not just uncountable sets of grammatical rules keen to trip us up when we least expect it -- among various populations around the world, languages will die unless something happens soon to change it.

Ayahuasca Visions & Experiences

When translated, the word Ayahuasca means vine of the dead. It has been used by Shaman as far back as anyone can remember.

Ayahuasca is capable of inducing an altered state of consciousness so powerful that you leave the material realm altogether. I have discussed, earlier this year, my great adventure on Ayahuasca: Entering the library of the Akasha

Third Eye - Pineal Gland

The pineal gland was the last endocrine gland to have its function discovered. Its location deep in the brain seemed to indicate its importance. This combination led to its being a "mystery" gland with myth, superstition and even metaphysical theories surrounding its perceived function.

The pineal gland is occasionally associated with the sixth chakra (also called Ajna or the third eye chakra in yoga). It is believed by some to be a dormant organ that can be awakened to enable "telepathic" communication.

In the physical body the eye views objects upside down. It sends the image of what it observes to the brain which interprets the image and makes it appear right side-up to us.

But the human body has another physical eye whose function has long been recognized by humanity. It is called the 'Third Eye' which in reality is the Pineal Gland. It is long thought to have mystical powers. Many consider it the Spiritual Third Eye, our Inner Vision.

It is located in the geometric center of the brain. This correlates to the location of the Great Pyramid in the center of the physical planet.

The Pineal Gland is about the size of a pea, and is in the center of the brain in a tiny cave behind and above the pituitary gland which lies a little behind the root of the nose. It is located directly behind the eyes, attached to the third ventricle.

The true function of this mysterious gland has long been contemplated by philosophers and Spiritual Adepts. Ancient Greeks believed the pineal gland to be our connection to the Realms of Thought.

Rene Descartes called it the Seat of the Soul, believing it is unique in the anatomy of the human brain in being a structure not duplicated on the right and left sides. This observation is not true, however; under a microscope one finds the pineal gland is divided into two fine hemispheres.

This gland is activated by Light, and it controls the various biorhythms of the body. It works in harmony with the hypothalamus gland which directs the body's thirst, hunger, sexual desire and the biological clock that determines our aging process.

When the pineal gland awakens one feels a pressure at the base of the brain. This pressure will often be experienced when connecting to higher frequency. A head injury can also activate the Third Eye - Pineal Gland.

While the physiological function of the pineal gland has been unknown until recent times, mystical traditions and esoteric schools have long known this area in the middle of the brain to be the connecting link between the physical and spiritual worlds. Considered the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans, the pineal gland has always been important in initiating supernatural powers. Development of psychic talents has been closely associated with this organ of higher vision.

The third eye can see beyond the physical

as is looks out through the chakrasystem
when we meditate or look for answers from higher frequencies.

The pineal gland contains a complete map of the visual field of the eyes and it plays several significant roles in human functioning.

There is a pathway from the retinas to the hypothalamus called the retinohypothalamic tract. It brings information about light and dark cycles to a region of the hypothalamus called the suprachiasmatic nucleus(SCN). From the SCN, nerve impulses travel via the pineal nerve (sympathetic nervous system) to the pineal gland. These impulses inhibit the production of melatonin. When these impulses stop (at night, when light no longer stimulates the hypothalamus), pineal inhibition ceases and melatonin is released. The pineal gland is therefore a photosensitive organ and an important timekeeper for the human body.

Retinal research done with hamsters demonstrates another center for melatonin production. Located in the retina, this center implies that the eyes have their own built in circadian timepiece. This retinal system is distinct from the brains body clock in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Biologists found that they could throw the retinal rhythms out of sync with other circadian cycles. They also found that they could set and reset the retinal clock even when the SCN was destroyed.

The retinal clock produces (stimulates the production of?) melatonin. Researchers are now looking for the exact location (s) of this clock in the human eye (and expect to find it). No one yet knows what the separate clock is for or how it relates to the SCN.

In some lower vertebrates the Epiphysis Cerebri - Pineal Gland - has a well-developed eye-like structure; in others though not organized as an eye, if functions as a light receptor. In lower vertebrates, the pineal gland has an eye like structure and it functions as a light receptor and is considered by some to be the evolutionary forerunner of the modern eye.

The gland weighs little more than 0.1 gram. The gland is large in children and begins to shrink with the onset of puberty. It appears to play a major role in sexual development, hibernation in animals, metabolism, and seasonal breeding. In humans it affects circadian rhythms, sleep patterns (melatonin levels increase at night), and is implicated in seasonal affective disorder. The abundant melatonin levels in children is believed to inhibit sexual development. When puberty arrives, melatonin production is reduced.

The pineal gland secretes melanin during times of relaxation and visualization. As we are created by electromagnetic energy - and react to EM energy stimuli around us - so does the pineal gland.

When activated, the pineal gland becomes the line of communication with the higher planes. The crown chakra reaches down until its vortex touches the pineal gland. Prana, or pure energy, is received through this energy center in the head. With Practice the vibration level of the astral body is raised, allowing it to separate from the physical.

To activate the 'third eye' and perceive higher dimensions, the pineal gland and the pituitary body must vibrate in unison, which is achieved through meditation and/or relaxation. When a correct relationship is established between personality, operating through the pituitary body, and the soul, operating through the pineal gland, a magnetic field is created. The negative and positive forces interact and become strong enough to create the 'light in the head.' With this 'light in the head' activated, astral projectors can withdraw themselves from the body, carrying the light with them.

Astral travel, and other occult abilities, are closely associated with the development of the 'light in the head'. After physical relaxation, concentration upon the pineal gland is achieved by staring at a point in the middle of the forehead. Without straining the muscles of the eye, this will activate the pineal gland and the 'third eye'. Beginning with the withdrawal of the senses and the physical consciousness, the consciousness is centered in the region of the pineal gland. The perceptive faculty and the point of realization are centralized in the area between the middle of the forehead and the pineal gland. The trick is to visualize, very intently, the subtle body escaping through the trap door of the brain. A popping sound may occur at the time separation of the astral body in the area of the pineal gland.

Visualization exercises are the first step in directing the energies in our inner systems to activate the 'third eye'. The magnetic field is created around the pineal gland, by focusing the mind on the midway point between the pineal gland and the pituitary body. The creative imagination visualizes something, and the thought energy of the mind gives life and direction to this form.

'Third eye' development, imagination, and visualization are important ingredients in many methods to separate from the physical form. Intuition is also achieved through 'third eye' development. Knowledge and memory of the astral plane are not registered in full waking consciousness until the intuition becomes strong enough. Flashes of intuition come with increasing consistency as the 'third eye' as activated to a greater degree, through practice.

The pineal gland corresponds with divine thought after being touched by the vibrating light of Kundalini. Kundalini starts its ascent towards the head center after responding to the vibrations from the 'light in the head.' The light is located at the top of the sutratma, or 'soul thread', which passes down from the highest plane of our being into the physical vehicle.

The 'third eye,' or 'eye of Siva,' the organ of spiritual vision, is intimately related to karma, as we become more spiritual in the natural course of evolution.

As human beings continue to evolve further out of matter, on the journey from spirit to matter back to spirit, the pineal gland will continue to rise from its state of age-long dormancy, bringing back to humanity astral capacities and spiritual abilities.

At certain brainwave frequencies, a sense of ego boundary vanishes. In the theta state, we are resting deeply and still conscious, at the threshold of drifting away from or back into conscious awareness. As the brain enters deeper states, our consciousness is less concerned with the physical state, our 'third eye' is active, and separation becomes natural. Many native traditions and mystical practices refer to the ability of 'seeing,' or being aware of energy fields at higher levels. This abstract awareness is much more subjective and does not involve the normal level of mundane consciousness, which is mostly concerned with self-identity. This 'seeing' refers to the sight of the 'third eye'.

Consciousness is raised from an emotional nature into an illumined awareness when the pineal gland is lifted from dormancy. If the pineal gland is not yet fully developed, it will be in the course of evolution. When our sense of ego and personality are set aside and we keep our mental energy intact, we can become conscious of the non-physical, our inner self, the subconscious, through different practices to activate the 'light in the head.

video: Timothy Leary's Last Trip

The long, strange trip of Dr. Timothy Leary, alternately lionized and despised as the High Priest of 1960s LSD subculture, has inspired generations in search of self-discovery and expanded consciousness. This authorized documentary of Leary's life pays homage to Leary and other '60s counterculture personalities such as Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters--who inspired Tom Wolfe's THE ELECTRIC KOOL-AID ACID TEST--and Acid Test house band The Grateful Dead. Like other films that deal with the work of iconoclastic American heroes, such as WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS: COMMISSIONER OF SEWERS and GROWING UP IN AMERICA--spotlighting '60s political radicals like Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin--this film offers testament to the power of revolutionary thought.

LAST TRIP recounts Leary's early life, from his schooling at West Point and his tenure as a Harvard professor, to the university and government experiments that prompted his research into LSD and other hallucinogens. Centering on Leary's relationships with key figures in the heyday of the drug era, archival footage and interviews chronicle the famous bus trip that first brought Leary and Kesey together. Insightful interviews with Leary toward the end of his life (he died of cancer in 1996), show that he dealt with terminal illness in a manner as colorful as the era with which he will be forever linked.

The Mystical Beauty of Shamanic Experiences

These images are a journey into the mind of a shaman. To gain a better understanding of what it is like to have a mystical, hyper-aware experience, images often aid in the communication of such an experience.

Shaman are often avid painters who have unceasing creativity. They draw inspiration from the many out-of-body experiences they have had during their journey through life and the accompanying mind-expanding experiences. Many of these experiences, as you can see portrayed in the artwork, bring the shaman into a world that is virtually unfathomable in a "normal" survival-like state of mind.

It takes much courage to take a journey out of the comfort zone, and into a world so foreign and peculiar. A world which, for those exposed to it for the first time, forever changes the perception of reality itself. Such a world is unfiltered by the survival-mode of behavior which becomes an ever more pervasive influence as our lives progress.

Timothy Leary: How to Operate Your Brain

The complete owner's guide, How to Operate Your Brain, is a 29 minute, guided, electronic (spoken/musical) meditation. In it, Dr. Leary tries to impart to the listener essential aspects of his visionary psychadellic experiences.

I have also included an article by one of Timothy Leary's friends. Its hard to believe that its already been 10 years since Mr. Leary's death.

10 years since Timothy Leary's death

source: JOI's Diary

Timothy Leary passed away 10 years ago today. I was with him the evening before he died and I still remember his humor even in his final hour.

I met Timothy Leary in Tokyo in the summer of 1990. Tim was excited about virtual reality and had told his friend David Kubiak in Kyoto to help him track down "young Japanese kids who know about virtual reality". I wasn't a VR expert, but I was into computer graphics, games and the rave/club scene. I had also just opened a nightclub in Tokyo. David, who lived in Kyoto, directed Tim to me and several others in Tokyo and we hooked up with him at a bar.

I hijacked the situation. After dinner I grabbed Tim and took him on a whirlwind tour of the Tokyo club scene. His visit happened to coincide with the time in my life when I was more tuned in to the Tokyo club scene than any other time in my life being the operator of one of the weirder nightclubs in Tokyo. I tried to explain how the Japanese youth were interpreting the rave and cyberpunk cultures. Tim got excited and we continued our dialog. He called these new funky Japanese kids "The New Breed". He changed the "tune in, turn on, drop out" to "tune in, turn on, take over." We talked a lot about neoteny, the retention of child-like attributes in adulthood, which he felt was exhibited in the culture of the Japanese youth at the time.

When I met Tim, I had been exposed to a lot of his work through his early writings and through the writings of people like Robert Anton Wilson. When I asked him whether he had actually talked to aliens as Robert Anton Wilson says in Cosmic Trigger, Tim explained that it was all a joke. A big joke. All that stuff about magic numbers and talking to aliens was a joke. Tim had an interesting relationship with the New Age culture that he helped create in the 60's but his interests had moved on to cyberspace and the next generation of youth. Tim was practical and analytical while also being an amazing performer and communicator. Above all, he was almost always very funny. He called himself a "performing philosopher."

When my mother moved to Los Angeles and I decided to base myself partially out of LA, Tim picked us up at the airport in LA and immediately threw a party for us at his home in Beverly Hills. That weekend, he insisted that we (mom, sister and myself) drive with him to San Francisco so he could introduce us to his friends there. He called Queen Mu, the publisher of Mondo 2000 and asked them to organize a party at the Mondo house. At that party, my sister met Scott Fisher, who she eventually married. We also met Mark Pauline of Survival Research Labs and probably 80% of the people I know in San Francisco. I have a feeling I might have met John Perry Barlow there as well. Tim also took me to the offices of The Well and introduced me to Stewart Brand. In one week, Tim had introduced us to his amazing network and had "plugged us in". I would not be where I am today if it were not for Tim's generosity in making his entire network available to us.

In LA, I spent a lot of time with Tim working on a book and producing a TV show in Japan called "The New Breed" based on our conversations. He enlisted me as a "God Son" which he has been known to do from time to time to people he considered family. I continued to meet people through Tim. Tim's house was always open to anyone and was a crossroads where Hollywood stars, hippies, technologists, academics, artists and just about any other kind of person you could imagine would come and hang out and enjoy his hospitality and share thoughts. I miss Tim very much and I miss the network of people he helped bring and keep together. I am still in touch with many of the people from those days but it's obviously not the same without him. However, I believe his influence and legacy lives on and every day I say my favorite words of his: "Question Authority and Think for Yourself." That is the motto that I live by.

I just got this from Zack Leary, Tim's son.

Zack Leary
Friends,

Ten years ago on this very day Timmy worked up every last bit of strength he had and plopped his cancer ridden vessel into his electric wheelchair. He did his morning ritual of barking at someone to make his coffee and to get his newspaper while he wheeled around the house to then soak up the sun outside on the Sunbrook Drive porch. This day felt different, however. The morning ritual never did go smoothly, but this day it seemed like it was just to much god damn trouble to begin with. He knew that too. After a sip or two of coffee he basically said “fuck it” and got what was left of his ass back in bed. There were not many words left – his fantastic world class verbosity was no longer. His tall proud gorgeous physique was long gone. His mental dance and history lesson of teaching us how to die was complete – it was time to cash in his few remaining chips.

It’s funny when you know that a specific day is going to be THE day someone dies. We all knew that May 31st, 1996 was going to be the day that Timmy was going to die. As he sat in his bed, the kind hospice people calmed his body down to a tranquil enough state for the rest of the crew to go ahead make the necessary arrangements. From about 10 a.m. until midnight many friends made one last trip to the foot of the bed to say their last goodbyes. The gracious republican landlords from next door, some of the wait staff from Mortons, old friends from Hollywood, team members, some family were all there to make good on his dying wish. What a day it was!

I think the only people who were truly freaking out were the rest of us, he was fine. His grace into death was legendary. As the day went on, he treated us to a spontaneous death rap called “Why? Why not” as about a dozen of us sat there laughing and crying. And then sometime very very late he said his last word “beautiful” and then drifted away.

As the coroners came to pick up the stiff we sat in the living room at Sunbrook freaked out and passed out. They wheeled his body out on the gurny and as he was approaching the doorway we have him one last rousing round of applause. A life well lived.

“And then one day you’ll find ten years have got behind you...No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.”

“Everyone will get the Timothy Leary they deserve.”

-Timothy Leary

I received this from Michael Gosney.

Timothy Leary died exactly 10 years ago today, on May 31, 1996.

Here's a nice selection of his writings, online:
http://www.erowid.org/culture/characters/leary_timothy/
And the WIKIpedia on Tim:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Leary

He was really just one of us, living a meaningful, full life...thriving in exemplary ways... making his unique contributions to our evolution...standing up when no one else would, telling stories along the way: fantastic tales, modern parables, simple foibles, profound insights, hilarious episodes...

Dr. Tim died on May 31, 1996. And on that day I would venture that the backplane of our planetary mind, the spirit world if you will...was vastly enriched with the new edge of human experience that Timothy's life so powerfully embodied. He was a modern hero with whom millions resonated, and whose mind and spirit opened many evolutionary pathways.

Tim was a friend and great inspiration to many. We remember and honor him as the human journey continues!

peace,
Michael

Entering the library of the Akasha

Human creation such as families, laws, institutions, money, textiles, rooms, carpets, cars, etc have little significance in the greater scheme of things. This is so because the connections that we share are shared by all; they have nothing to do with civilization or any of the other imaginings of mankind. In the realm of the Akasha, each of us possesses a light body and recognizes that others are always spiritually connected.

Our universal connections are seldom understood, even though they are accessible by everyone; this is because the human mind tends to indoctrinated with one of the many popular cultures of humankind. The indoctrination process often causes the mind to become engrossed in the generally accepted reality and filter all else out of their awareness.

It is possible, however, to deactivate this firewall, of sorts, that we have created in our minds; a firewall which possessed the soul purpose of filtering out the myriad of things that are continuously streaming into our minds. It is essential that we open the gates to more of what exists so that we can have access to the greatest library of them all, the Akashic library.

In the early 1900s a psychic by the name of Edgar Cayce learned how to consult the Akashic Records. His readings are proof that we can all benefit from the knowledge derived from this realm. Cayce claimed, on several occasions, that we all posses the ability to traverse these higher realms; it can be done with or without the use of Shamanic substances such as Ayahuasca or Peyote, although the absence of such substances makes the transition considerably more difficult.

During the spring of 2002 I unexpectedly gained access to the vast library after ingesting a large quantity of the Ayahuasca root. I would never have been able to guess where the Ayahuasca would bring me.

It all started with the bitter experience of ingesting an entire bowl of this substance. I then had a period of about 20 minutes where nothing much was happening. Then it started to hit me and I ended up having to expel the substance from my body. It was not a pleasant experience, at that point in time, because my body was reacting as if it were food poisoning.

As I was expelling the Ayahuasca, I noticed that my perception of physical objects and myself was starting to change. I looked at the walls and they were more than just solid sheets of wood and paint, wavy patterns of light covered the walls and many of the objects in the bathroom. The toilet and all of the rubbish laying in the room took on a life of its own, I perceived it as a dark presence.

It appears as if the substance made me aware of my patterned states, this includes many sub-conscious archetypes which were present in my mind and I hadn't realized it prior. I then got up and looked into the mirror only to find that I look nothing like I remembered myself looking. Usually, when we look at ourselves or anyone else, we simplify what we are looking at.

Now that the "reality filter" was off, however, nothing is quite as simple as it used to seem; time begins to dilate to such an extent that the experience of a minute is equivalent to the experience of an hour in a "normal" state. In such a state, you begin to become keenly aware of nearly everything and everyone that is around you and all of the minutiae.

After having felt this hyper-awareness for about 20-30 minutes, I became intensely bored with the Earth and everything I was around and began to confront the many subconscious archetypes of myself and what I perceived in others. I noticed the patterns that everyone in the group was occupied with, it was intriguing for some time, but the time dilation became even more exacerbated as the substance kicked in.

I decided to retreat to a closet and do some soul searching until I reached the end of this experience. I laid my head back and confronted, head on, the dark entities which, increasingly, tormenting me with their many tools. For awhile they dominated over me and made fear their awesome level of control.

Gradually the filter dis-engaged and I saw less and less of my own mental archetypes; I began seeing things which cannot be very well described by words, terms and symbols. I cannot accurately say what they were, but I can say that they weren't like anything on the Earth, nor was there any simillence of a floor or ceiling. It was a three-dimensional realm of beings with light bodies, instead of the heavy chemical bodies that we are used to.

For awhile I watched, in awe of what I was seeing. I thought that it cannot possibly get more intense than this, but alas, there was more to it. I started to notice that I was experiencing other realities simultaneously. I don't know how this was done, but apparently the mind can do it, we are not simply locked into one field, but can experience many. I was able to experience approximately seven simultaneous realities.

The realities were vastly different from one another. In one reality, I was a man who was taking part in an Earth-like situation, while in others I was in totally Alien situations which are nearly indescribable. During all of this time, I retained mental access to the body I was in and anyone who came to see me, although I had to make a concerted effort to bring that reality back into focus with all of the intense things which were occurring in the many parallel realities.

The experience of parallel realities continued for several hours, it seemed like several years to me at the time, however, because the experience was a tremendous download of information for such a short period of time. After awhile of embracing the plenitude of the Akasha, I relaxed, accepted the beauty of it all, and began to feel the warmth of oneness. I felt as if everything is wrapped in different layers, like an onion, and I had finally reached the inner layers.

I began to see nothing more than a beautiful white light, which seemed to me to be pure energy. I embraced its presence and communicated with it telepathically for the duration of the heightened experience.
